Post subject: midi playback on vista
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>music_pictures_video (more info?)

i have a hp pavilion with a realtek ac97 onboard audio with the latest vista
driver my problem, i use a program called cakewalk pro 7 and microsoft gs
wavetable synth to compose midi drums and the record real bass & guitar &
vocals to make a song which work fine on xp but when i installed vista & it
all went to hell, i tried to playback a song and the midi drums sounded like
like a drunk the where all over the place and even stopped so i checked the
settings and found i could nolonger select which audio device would be used
as the playback for microsoft gs wavetable synth, so i contacted vista
support and worked with them we tried to find a solution which went on for
weeks tried cakewalk sonar 6 vista compatable which was the just the same
even when playing a full midi song on media player it didnt work it stopped
halfway i thought it was my onboard audio so i went out and bought a
soundblaster audigy nx installed the vista driver still the same, i have now
found out that microsoft have removed "hal" hardware acceleration and 3d
direct sound in vista as well as removing the ability to select which audio
device is used for midi playback hmm so really it would matter what program
i used nothing would have worked anyway, in my opinion vista audio sux,
these basic functions are so very important to musicains recording at home on
thier pc, and microsoft have killed off home recording by these changes
here's the best solution if your have trouble with midi on vista dump it &
reinstall xp, so if you can help resolve this problem please let us know
