Help! Word keeps locking up and gives the mesage "not responding" This worked
fine for 4 months and now suddenly it gives me this message when I want to
ope a saved file or close word. I find this very annoying. This office
program cost way too much money not to work. I have been told it could be
templates, but I am not an IT speacialist, so I need more detailed
information in order to fix the problem.
Thanks to anyone who may be able to help me.

You /could/ try the group Nonny gave you, but even better would be
microsoft.public.word.newuser

Actually, it's "newusers". Looks like a good one though.

The Office one you mentioned is good, but tends to be very general, whereas
the word one is specific.... Smile

You can test if it is templates by typing in Start Run

winword /a

If word works then it is templates.

Regardless of the age of the original post - this fix came up as 3rd on
the list for Word 2007 not responding in Google.

I purchased Office 2007 about 3 months ago and have had nothing but
trouble with opening Word since. I downloaded patches and fixes that I
found months ago and nothing has worked until now.

typing "winword /a" worked!

Thank you!

Typing winword /a starts Word without addins so in earlier versions of word
one goes to Tools - Templates and Addins and disables addins one by one.

It can also be caused by a corrupt normal.dot. Delete normal.dot and a new
one will be created.

What I found out thru trial and process is that a couple of third party
apps installed will cause the problem also, one related to word
indirectly "Affixa" and one not related in any way that I can see
"VisiPics". Thru process of elimination, uninstalling, one at a time is
the way I found them.
Just today I installed a third party app, and upon restarting saw that
the network printer was not on the toolbar. Investigated and word docs
"Not Responding" once again, uninstalled app "AnyDVD Convertor
Professional Trial" restarted and everything is fine once again.
Might trry this if none of the above will work for you.
