Perhaps your antivirus program is doing a scan at startup?

Start by turning off your antivirus and spyware programs. make sure they are
turned off at startup as well. Also turn off windows defender and indexing of
your hard drives. I suspect its your antivirus or spyware program that is
doing it. They usually cause a lot of issues with the system booting up.

OK everyone, some good stuff has been said, but NOTHING that helped me
fix or find the problem. Obviously I need my notebook to work fast,
can't wait around 10-15 minutes for it to work properly. In the end I
gave up, did a format and fresh reinstall. I'm using the same antivirus,
same firewall, same everything as before. Well besides the Acer
utilities which I never used anyway...
The point is my notebook is back to it's good old performance, boot +
startup in no time and after that everything as usual. To conclude,
obviously this wasn't a hardware problem because it wouldn't have gone
away after a reinstall. I suspect it was a registry problem, because I
must admit I fool around and edit it sometimes. Not to mention the
registry cleaning programs.
Anyway, all is back to normal. So if your PC has a problem no one knows
how to fix, do a format and reinstall. Now I should go really make
myself a backup :D

TRY THIS

msconfig -> services -> hide all microsoft services -> uncheck these if
they exist: xaudio, vongo, stllsvr,roxmediad89, installdriver table
manager, cyberlink background, cyberlink task,

Then click on boot tab ->advanced options -> number of processors 2 ->
maximum memory.

If still doesnt work then may be something is wrong with your PREFETCH
folder in x:\Windows\Prefetch

I use System mechanic 8.xxx and it has an option of defragging such
files that windows loads on startup... Doing that once in a while keeps
boot time in check... try that one.

I am having the same problem described here, but it takes more than a
half-hour for my machine to reboot. The computer is barely a month old,
and I'm thinking I will have to wipe the disk clean and start all over
again. Thank you, Microsoft!

I thought I'd monitor how long it takes me to reboot. One hour, and once
rebooted the machine runs slow. Some programs, notably iTunes, freeze
quickly. I've tried removing programs, and have tried a system restore
to a couple weeks ago. Doesn't help. I'm going to try one more system
restore back to the point when I bought the machine, and see if that
will work.

I had a client bring in a Gateway Laptop that was VERY slow on boot up
after login. The culprit turned out to be the Dell printer driver.
Removed the driver and the machine boots quickly.
