Need urgent help,

Got from faculty Windows Vista. While rebooting, for a clean installation i
get every time the message: Missing ntldr. press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to reboot.
Boot priority is set to DVD drive. But still same answer. After formating
partition same message is appearing again. Previous OS is Win XP. Coul it be
that, while copying DVD, a boot file is missing?
Please help....

Hi,

Vista doesn't use ntldr. If it's being called for, that means the mbr was
not overwritten to point to Vista's bootloader and it's still looking for
XP's. Check the system BIOS for a protection setting that disallows writing
to the mbr (bootsector antivirus protection is a common term for it). This
needs to be disabled during setup or Vista will not be able to alter the mbr
correctly.

It's not in the MBR, but in the partition's boot record.

If you have more than one harddrive, the BIOS might be booting off the
wrong one

Agreed, or more than one partition on the drive and the wrong one is set
active.

common winload.ex and system missing issue(which forced me to
reformat),and not i'm stuck with nothing

Unfortunately, no one knows what the "last reply" said because we don't see
it. I'll explain why below. In the meantime, if you cannot load Windows
after you did a clean install, I would suspect failing hardware. However,
you haven't provided enough information for anyone to give you focused help.
Refer to the "How to Post" section below.

You are not posting on a real forum as you think you are and you didn't
quote any of the thread to which you are replying. You are using a web
interface that leeches Usenet posts and most of the rest of us are using
real newsreaders. We don't see what you do. If you want to participate in
Usenet, the better way is to set up a newsreader. This is very easy to do
and I'll give you information about that below. If you prefer to use a
forum, then here are two excellent ones:

http://http://computerhaven.info/

Since you are using a web interface, you may not realize that this is really
a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to use
a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use
Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it. Here

I do understand the concept behind there being no NTLDR on vista, but
the reasons why you have mentioned make even -less- sense as I've never
had any other incarnations of Windows on this system at all. It's a
single harddrive single partition system as well.

And unfortunately enough for me, my Vista x64 Ultimate Disc happens to
be storage in another state. Oh is this ever wonderful.
