As of yesterday morning I can't empty Junk E-mail folder. After I click on
“Empty Junk E-mail folder” it deletes all but 42 messages. However when I
use Windows Mail next time the deleted messages are back in the junk E-mail
folder after Windows Mail displays two error messages: "Recovering Windows
Mail database" and then: "The message store has been corrupted by an
application external to Windows Mail. Windows mail has been able to
successfully recover from this corruption (0x00000000)"

You might try Mike's method of resetting the database:
> Close Windows Mail
> Click Start > Search > Advanced Search
> Location = Everywhere
> Place a check in "Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files"
> Name = (type) WindowsMail.MSMessageStore
>
> When completed, you should only see 2 instances
> Highlight, right-click and select: Delete
> Ok any prompts, close Search and restart WinMail
Hope this helps.

You are quoting a rather old reply of mine, and the advice offered
there is no longer current.
The best advice I can give you currently is to upgrade to Microsoft's
replacement for Windows Mail:
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas
If you reside outside the US, use the direct download link:
http://g.live.com/1rebeta/WLM_en-us

Move the entire contents of the message store to a subdirectory under
Documents. Then start WinMail and it will start fresh. Once its working,
then you can use File | Import | Messages and point to the moved directory
to get the messages back.
See also www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm and www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

No one knows if Microsoft will ever release official fixes for WM.
My guess is that they will be forced to do something in conjunction
with releasing Service Pack 1 for Vista, but that may not happen
until much later this year.
When you install the WLM beta, it automatically imports all emails,
accounts and settings from WM. It also removes the shortcuts for
WM, so that people won't be confused by seeing two different email
programs on their computer. It doesn't delete any WM data or files,
and uninstalling WLM automatically restores WM as your primary
email program. It's a win-win proposition.

I have the same message upon system startup. I had Windows Mail and started
encountering problems with it (can't delete e-mails from Inbox). Then I
downloaded Windows Live Beta. How do I get rid of this message regarding
Windows Mail? I have done the MessageStore search and delete but it keeps
coming back. Any help is greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more
info.

I don't understand. If you downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail,
how can you still be getting error messages from Windows Mail?

Because you tell people to get WLM to fix the WM problems.

I repeat, how can you get a Windows Mail error message if
Windows Mail is not running? It would have to be a
Windows Live Mail error message.
"Joey" was not real clear, but seemed to indicate he was getting
an error message from WM.

I am no longer getting error messages. I have switched back to Windows Mail
temporarily (until it gives me more problems and/or I am going to get rid of
McAfee). How do I get WM to stop putting a "Recovered Messages" folder in
Local Folders? I really do appreciate everyone's assistance.

You can't get WM to stop putting up "Recovered Messages" folders,
which is one of the reasons I advise people with severe WM problems
to switch to WLM.
Your continued insistence on running McAfee is not helping the situation.
